Zurich Opera gets an extra artistic director
NewsZurich Opera has named the Italian violinist and conductor Riccardo Minasi as first Artistic Director of its HIP orchestra La Scintilla.
Intendant Andreas Homoki says: ‘With this appointment, the Opernhaus Zürich continues a tradition founded by Nikolaus Harnoncourt, from which La Scintilla emerged more than 20 years ago – the only historically informed performance practice orchestra in the world whose members are also part of a permanent opera orchestra.’
Music director Gianandrea Noseda adds: ‘I am extremely happy to welcome Riccardo Minasi to the Opernhaus family … I am sure that his knowledge, enthusiasm, and inspiration, along with his fruitful relationship with La Scintilla, will bring extra excitement to Zurich.’

May there be more such musical directors.
“the only historically informed performance practice orchestra in the world whose members are also part of a permanent opera orchestra”
Hard to believe, but Homoki and his Zurich PR team don’t seem to know about Händel’s home town Halle, its annual Händelfestspiele festival – and especially the opera of Halle’s orchestra, Staatskapelle Halle, with its own hip orchestra, the ‘Händelfestspielorchester’ !?
