Unlnike Hirshbein’s Gruene Felder, this was filmed in an abandoned potato field in Long Island and a studio in the Bronx.
Spielberg is in contract with Disney to do a remake of this with a new script in English by Tony Kushner set on the Lower East Side of NY, and original kletzmer music played by Martin Frost.

MGM is planning a remake of Fiddler on the Roof. In light of the box-office success of Spieberg’s most recent remake, perhaps his (SS) new approach will be the more successful of the two.
Meanwhile Lin-Manuel Miranda has announced his remake of My Fair Lady, where someone takes a homie straight out of Compton and teaches her how to ask and not ax and then to sing and makes her into the new Jessye Norman?
Everything about that sounds great! I only wonder if Giora Feidman is unavailable….
