This is one of a series filmed in the 1920s. All surviving films from this series are here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uOHBkr1mX8&t=80s

  • John Borstlap says:

Fantastic playing, in spite of the hardness of the fortes, but that has always been a Horowitz thing.

  • Jeffrey Biegel says:

In this video, my long time feeling that Mr. Horowitz held Josef Lhevinne as a pianistic idol remains true and is validated in this recording.

    • Peter San Diego says:

I’d be interested to read more particulars about this: what, specifically, should one focus on in the video?

    • Judd says:

Nice to hear you mention the great Josef Lhevinne, whose wife wasn’t bad either….at piano, as well as published insights in playing.
As was the case with Hofmann, these players had machine-like technique.

  • Mark Mortimer says:

Gosh- thats amazing- a youthful Horowitz. Those incredible hands in motion- a treasure of a document & surprisingly good audio for primitive TV recording. Perhaps only Cziffra could play this Etude with greater speed & accuracy but not with the delicacy of Horowitz.
