From the Dutch baroque cellist Viola de Hoog:

…. this was a unique experience:

My reward for getting up at 04.45 today to fly from Madrid to Bremen to teach:
Lufthansa stewardess complimenting me on my Bach CD!

British Airways, meanwhile, today signed Emma Raducanu as global brand ambassador. Wonder if they’ll let her take tennis racquets into the cabin.

  • Gustavo says:

OK, nice ego-trip, but flying from Madrid to Bremen is rather unsensible right now.

It is this kind of jet-stting that boosts pandemics and climate change.

    • UK Arts Administrator says:

A welcome and rare good news story for music (and for the equally hard-hit travel industry) at the moment, and someone finds the negative.

If you’ve just done a concert in Madrid (where every participant in such orchestras is Covid-tested with great frequency and rigour), you have brought pleasure to Spanish audiences, and your teaching next day is in Germany, how else do you get there?

Or should all professional musicians just give up performing, also give up teaching the next generation of musicians, and instead take unemployment benefit, and sit at home?

And a happy Christmas to you too!

  • operacentric says:

Are her tennis raquets worth the £1/2m or so a Strad violin?

    • V.Lind says:

They’ll be worth a lot more than that to her if the hype around her is followed by the delivery. (Which very much remains to be seen).

  • Leberecht is a specialist in finding a negative whenever possible. Let’s hope Santa does not find out.
