Death of a star luthier, 85
NewsThe death has been announced of the Dutch-born Massachussets instrument maker Marten Cornelissen, whose violins were played by Yehudi Menuhin, Bernard Greenhouse and members of the Julliard and Guarneri String Quartets.
He was 85.
His lifelong output amounts to more than 600 instruments.
Greenhouse played cello.
If Bernard Greenhouse ever played any of the late luthier’s “violins”, it must have been in a very private setting, because in public, as far as I know, he was exclusively a cellist.
