He was an angel. To see the appreciation of the orchestra
musicians, as he plays, is also a grace. So too the
meditative listening of the Proms audience….Thank you
for posting this. He is still so
much with us.
Nelson’s playing and person were one: sublime, intelligent, sensitive, courageous.

He has everyone in the palm of his hand in this lovely performance.
I recall the enormous splash he made with that debut album for Columbia Masterworks, a 2-LP set with Tchaikovsky #1, Schumann, Grieg and the Liszt Totentanz — with the headline on the cover about a new star in the pianistic heavens. I suppose the brooding good looks on the album cover didn’t hurt either. But even so, from that hell-fire debut album one might not have anticipated this Gluck/Sgambati from the same artist.
Superb. I can’t stop playing this.
