The Austrian mezzo Elisabeth Kulman will give her farewell Vienna recital at the end of the month.

She gave up on opera six years back, saying it treated singers badly.

Now she’s convinced the music business as a whole is ‘anti-artist’ and anyway she’s had enough.

‘I have fulfilled all of my artistic dreams,’ she tells Die Presse.

Don’t blame her! You’re just a commodity abd investment for the agent and an object for the expert armchair critics who know everything about singing and the voice but only ever sung in the bath! It’s a very cruel world out there, and 48 no age to retire. The pandemic has particularly not helped the non-elite singers at all and many I know have just called it a day.
