Peruvian and Russian win Domingo’s Operalia
NewsIvan Ayon-Rivas, a tenor from Peru, and the Russian mezzo Victoria Karkacheva were declared joint winners of the latest Operalia competition in Moscow.
The other placings were:
Second Prize
Mané Galoyan, soprano, Armenia
Bekhzod Davronov, tenor, Uzbekistan
Jonah Hoskins, tenor, USA
Third Prize
Emily Pogorelc, soprano, USA
Dmitry Cheblykov, baritone, Russia
Jusung Park, bass-baritone, South Korea
There was little media coverage outside Russia.
The Peruvian is due to sing Malcolm in La Scala’s seasons opener of Verdi’s Macbeth.
Domingo’s thought cloud:
“See? I am not touching anybody! SHE is touching me! Young lust … can’t say she has no taste … I am still the best looking chap all around”
Does “the Russian Mezzo” have a name? Couldn’t we be a little more repectful or did I just miss it?
An exceptionally strong group of 8 winners. One could argue that Mane Galoyan should have won first prize but they are all wonderful.
So there is a Russian and a Peruvian but the Peruvian is the one who is called Ivan?
