One of the highlights of my entire career was sitting 2 meters away from her while recording Lucia di Lammermoor ( I was playing 1st Horn). Unbelievable voice and such a lovely lady. The memories have not dimmed after 25 years.
I couldn’t agree more, and love that her work as a lieder singer is acknowledged in this way. The Strauss set for Teldec, recorded around 1990, is really an impressive achievement. Also recommendable are two recitals she recorded for Nightingale in the mid 1990s, one of Schubert, Mendelssohn, and Brahms Lieder, the other of songs by Dvorak, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Rachmaninoff. They’re among my favorite souvenirs of this glorious singer.
This is exquisite. Thank you.
