Yo Yo Ma adds Holocaust tribute to Prague fest
NewsThe American cellist has been delighting Czechs with improptu performances on board a boat sailing down the Vlatava River.
He played mostly Bach, but also Dvorak, a Czech folk song and Bob Dylan’s ‘Blowin in the Wind’.
In a last minute programme change, he insisted on paying a visit to the Old Jewish Cemetery in order to remember the devastation wrought by the German occupation on one of Europe’s oldest communities.
On the eve of the Jewish New Year, his gesture was particularly apt.

Let’s face it, Norman, Yo Yo is a real mensch. Happy New Year.
He’s a magnificent representative of the best in humanity and a terrific musician too.
This is what an accomplished musician, who has already earned lots of cash, can do with his time. Good for him!!
It’s good to see somebody supporting the Jews and not criticizing and vilifying them. For a change.
