SanFran Opera closes Tosca with a marriage proposal
NewsAt the end of the reopening run of Puccini’s opera, the San Francisco audience was delighted to see bass Soloman Howard drop to one knee at the curtain call and propose marriage to Ailyn Pérez, who had sung the title role. We think she said, yes.
You see, it’s not always the tenor that gets the girl.
We wish them every happiness.

Norman, Perez was most certainly not singing the title role in Nozze di Figaro.
Ugh these ostentatious proposals. It’s so manipulative that men do this – how is the woman meant to say anything but yes when they’ve been put on the spot in front of a big crowd? Why does the crowd need to see a proposal of complete strangers? It’s not romantic at all, it gives me the creeps.
(*I’ve only ever heard of it happening with a man asking a woman.)
*snore*
If the lady (in this instance) knows, and in fact there are no surprises, then I think it is lovely. I totally agree with you if one of the parties (either way around!) is using a public forum in this way. Horribly manipulative in that case.
That is so sweet. Good for them!
“O Scarpia, avant a de whole audience!”
Her SECOND proposal! Let’s hope that this one turns out better than the first time!
Oh for Feks sake! Yes, it’s her second proposal. Should she just be sitting at home hiding and wearing a scarlet letter? of course you already know that he was remarried. I’m sure that’s fine with you though. Nothing like a little misogyny in the morning. It’s 2021. GROW UP.
I guess this means Cavaradossi can now hook up with Angelotti’s sister…
Congratulations!!
Now Cavaradossi can elope with Angelotti’s sister!
