Biz news: Universal upgrades composer search
NewsNatasha Baldwin, the scalp-hunter who signed the 3-billion-streaming Max Richter to Universal’s publishing arm, has been promoted to Executive Vice President, Classics and Screen.
That means she’s looking for film composers.
The UMPG list presently includes Danny Elfman, Alexandre Desplat, James Newton-Howard and Gustavo Santaolalla.
Presumably not to be confused with Universal Edition, Wien, publishers of Schoenberg, Berg and Webern. Though Schoenberg’s Opus 34 might qualify for inclusion in Ms Baldwin’s developing list.
He has written more than film music, some of which seemed to me of high quality.
