David Stern
Martin Campbell-White??? Were they hard up for jurors?
Come on, MC-W had a very successful career as artist manager for Rattle, Abbado and Haitink amongst many others.
Please save your sneers
That doesn’t mean he knows anything about fiddle playing. Managers don’t belong on juries, period.
“Just two U.S. contenders” sounds about right….
Firstly, I would be curious why a competition named for Isaac Stern would not be held in San Francisco or at least America, especially with his son involved. Then I would want to know how these I’m sure fine fiddlers were screened through allowing more from China than all of Europe and America together. With all the great music schools and such of all those countries, the result lacks all credibility. I know music education isn’t as supported as it is should be, but there are still hundreds of amazing young people coming up every year to our great teachers and schools. Such as Eastman, Cleveland, Oberlin, Indiana, Manhatten, and Curtis. Hard to believe they could only come up with two! Whose fooling who?
How many on this list were trained in America? Probably most of them.

There are far more musicians coming out of music schools than could ever sensibly be employed. We really do not need more support for music education.
Shannon Lee was born in Canada, so it’s actually two Canadians and one American. 😛
And, she’s the one to beat.
