Good morning, Lincoln Center. Here’s a $20 million gift
NewsA wealthy couple, Lynne and Richard Pasculano, has just given the performing arts centre a cool 20 mil.
Mrs Pasculano said she’d like others to pitch in like her to hel the ‘social revitalization of New York, which will spur tourism and job creation and help to equitably revitalize our city.’
Lincoln Center says it will share the money between the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Ballet, Lincoln Center Theater and Jazz at Lincoln Center.
What happened to the New York Philharmonic?
Precisely my question.
The NYPO is having a half billion dollar renovation of Geffen Hall that’s already been paid for. The other Lincoln Center entities aren’t so lucky.
Bout time that donors look past the hoggery of the top orchestras and think of other fine arts organizations. Maybe the NYP will think of some other way of paying those $300k contracts for a number of solo chair and the $1.5 million plus salary for their Chief Executive Orchestra. Meanwhile, the yearly salary for a ROPA (regional orchestras) musicians was $13k per year and is now lower if they have a salary at all. Ah, the poor NYP. We shed a bitter tear for thee. So overlooked…
White privilege in action. Don’t take the money if you think it doesn’t comply with CRT.
That’s a lot of Necco Wafers. Love people who give their money well!
If only things like this happened in London.
Careful for what you wish… he/she who pays the piper calls the tune!
Not really. The system in Britain is better than the US. In the US rich people can divert their taxes into their favourite past-times in return for some kind of non-financial reward. In Britain where that tax money goes is democratically decided.
Too bad that those of us who haven’t taken the Clot Shot won’t be able to enjoy the fruits of this.
You don’t deserve them.
Thank you, Mr. & Mrs. Pasculano!!
1. It’s a wonderful gift.
2. It’s highly doubtful that the phone rang in the morning and the 20-million dollar check arrived in the afternoon (although it can happen of course). Gifts of that nature are usually planned over a long period of time, and there’s probably a whole team in the fundraising department that has nurtured relationships for a quite a while before the gift was finalized.
3. After we have thanked the generous donors, we must pay tribute to the dedicated people who always work in the dark and make things like that come to fruition.
As my father once wisely said, “rich or poor, it’s nice to have money.”
Health is more important. Michael schumacher
