Founder quits new music ensemble
NewsManchester-based Psappha, the only contemporary music group in the north of England, will open its 30th season with a note of regret.
Tim Williams, who founded the group in 1991, will step down as artistic director when the season ends.
He will be succeeded by the pianist Benjamin Powell.
He’s stepping down as artistic director…he’s not quitting the ensemble as is made very clear in the press release on their website. ‘Tim will continue to perform with Psappha, whose focus under Ben will remain firmly on the music of the late 20th and early 21st centuries – and particularly on encouraging, commissioning and performing music by some of the brightest and most exciting new composers from the UK and beyond.’ Why do you over dramatize everything with ridiculous headlines?
“Only contemporary music group in the north of England.”. Doesn’t Liverpool still have Ensemble 10/10?
Yes it does. They appear to be performing in Liverpool in early October.
They have only been excellent since their foundation in 1997.
Never heard of them and live up there!
Doesn’t Liverpool count as the North? What about Ensemble 10/10?
10 years? A good stint!
