The death has been announced of the German soprano Sigune von Osten at the Trombacher Hof monastery near Bad Kreuznach where she lived for almost 30 years.

A pioneering performer of modenist works by Cage, Nono, Scelsi, Messiaen and many others, she gave more than 100 world premieres and helped found several festivals. Sigune von Osten was 71 at her death.
