What a mensch!
Interesting conversation – I had to go to YouTube itself to learn that Ax’s interlocutor is the pianist and teacher Benjamin Laude.
Speaking as a non-pianist (very literally a non-pianist: I can find A/440 and that is about it) but someone who can after all read music, to an extent, I mentioned to a pianist friend who loves Bach and Chopin most of all, and who often puts the sheet music in front of me as she plays, that visually as music writers they are surprisingly similar LOOKING, at least to an eye which is not simultaneously imagining the required piano fingerings as they read piano music. That is, there LOOKS like there is polyphony in Chopin even if a stuffy German purist would deny it’s there. (I am of course aware that Chopin wrote a few fugues, which I think V. Ashkenazy included in his “complete.”)

A real mensch!
What a lovely man Emmanuel Ax is, ( not to mention a great pianist ) !
