Fly that St. Martin’s gang in from LA for Sunday!
I’m not sure how long the song has been associated with football but the original has played at all 81 home games of the baseball Boston Red Sox during the “interval” between the top & bottom of the 7th inning, known as the 7th inning stretch, since 1997.
Sorry 8th inning, not 7th.
Between halves of the seventh. Hence the name. Trust me — I have probably stretched in more seventh innings, in three countries, than most of you here.
I think it has been kicking around English football since about 2016, and Irish before that. And a long history with sport in the US.
Worst first line of any song I can think of.
