The press release indicates an abrupt departure.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Evgeny Kissin has been forced to cut short his visit to the 28th edition of the Verbier Festival. Following an exceptional recital of Berg, Khrennikov, Gershwin and Chopin on July 19, the pianist and Festival favourite was set to perform a selection of works written by Jewish composers in two concerts with Joshua Bell and Steven Isserlis on July 25at 6 and 8 pm at the Festival’s Salle des Combins. Lahav Shani steps in for Kissin for these performances. The programme has been slightly modified.

As a consequence of his departure, ‘Address Unknown’, the theatrical reading of Kathrine Kressman Taylor’s short story, featuring Evgeny Kissin and Thomas Hampson, is now cancelled. The performance was originally programmed for the evening of July 31.

    Khrennikov?

    • esfir ross says:

Khrenikov was a prominent USSR composer, studied with Goldenveiser, Henrich Neihaus as pianist in Moscow conservatory. I was at concert of his music in 1960th . He was soloist of his piano concerto.

      • Petros LInardos says:

I know who Khrennikov was, but was surprised at Kissin having programmed his music.

How was the Khrennikov concerto and how was he as a piano soloist?

  • Fliszt says:

As a teen, Kissin gave several perfomances of a Krennikov concerto (including a performance in Paris). One of those performances was issued commercially on a boutique label. It’s out there, so you can find it.

  • Kissin Fan says:

Very sad news coming out that his long time teacher and mentor Anna Pavlovna Kantor passed away. She was a legendary persona, having taught and mentored some fabulous pianists during her long and incredible career. RIP.
