German minister mourns Auschwitz orchestra player
RIPGerman Minister of State for Culture Monika Grütters has issued a public statement on the passing of an Auschwitz survivor:
As a Holocaust survivor, Esther Bejarano faced the pain of remembering all her life. With her impressive eyewitness work, she did everything possible to ensure that the terrible consequences of the National Socialist racial madness and the horrific excesses of a totalitarian state were not forgotten. With her sensitive words, she led young people in particular out of silence and into mutual understanding. We will sorely miss Esther Bejarano’s invaluable contribution to coming to terms with the darkest chapter in German history.
