The Royal Ballet has tweeted news of the death of Philip Chatfield, a central figure in the company with his wife Rowena Jackson.
Philip, who was 93, joined the Ballet in 1943 and danced 40 roles over 16 years.
The couple moved in in 1959 to run New Zealand’s National Ballet School.
