Christian Thielemann: I am leaving Dresden on good terms
NewsThe Dresden Staatskapelle music director has given his first reaction to the non-renewal of his contract.
‘We continue with joy. I part on good terms,’ he said.
He calls his departure ‘a newly won freedom that can be used for quality assurance.’
Thielemann is a legend
in his own mind.
He could be, if he would work harder.
Let’s see if he is on the Chicago schedule for next season, which is supposed to be announced today. They’ll soon need a successor to Muti and Chicago can afford
CT.
Afford dreary performances and joyless music making?
He isn’t.
The other conductor featured prominently in the announcement is Michael Tilson Thomas, 76.

Good. That’ll keep him out of S.F. Not only does he just repeat all his usual rep., I can’t stand seeing those dorky glasses.
Chicago can and will do better: I suspect Manfred Honeck will succeed Muti. Someone who has been dropped in Dresden will not even be considered.
Isn’t Honeck going to Dresden? Or both?
We have entered the age of the self important, opinionated, run of the mill Conductor.Or how to become a rich superstar by ‘beating time’.
It was always thus…
It would be interesting to hear what the musicians say about the good terms, off the record
Thielemann has never left a position on “good terms”. He’s always been ousted once the powers that be finally realized what a blockhead he is.
