Lucia Popp; taken much too soon. Much missed.
It’s as if Brahms wrote this for her. Incidentally, the conductor is someone else who departed too soon – Giuseppe Sinopoli.
One of the most beautiful voices of the 20th century: it was tragic that she had to die so young – one of far too many youngish women singers who died prematurely
Not sure why my previous comment was apparently rejected, but the b&w photo is is Lucia Popp with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by George Solti. I’m pretty sure I was at one of the performances – a while ago, to be sure. The album excerpt may be Popp with another orchestra led by Sinopoli – can’t tell.
