Mozart competition shuts down for lack of funds
NewsThe Leopold Mozart violin competition in Augsburg has announced it scannot afford to stage a tenth edition and is winding up its assets.
Quite a few more should follow in the cold light of post-Covid reality.
To quote SD: “And all shall have prizes” …
Every competition shutting down is a win for actual music.
Maybe they can change the name from ‘Leopold Mozart Violin Competition’ to ‘Wolfgang Amadè Mozart Violin Competition’ and see what happens. Apart from the violin treatise and after writing hundreds of works and seeing how the Toy Symphony is the only one for which he is remembered, Leopold no longer cares.
There will be new competitions to replace it. There always are.
