German concert agents form political lobby group

Amazingly, agents in Germany, Austria and Switzerland with 150+ opera houses and concert halls, have never formed a coordinating body.

They have now – mostly due to Covid and Brexit related issues.

The mission:

– Clarification and standardisation of the status of guest artists under labour and social security law.
– Improvement of model contracts and industry-wide acceptance of regulations that acknowledges the artists’ preparation in advance for projects and entitles them to compensation payments in the event of cancellations through no fault of their own.
– Recognition of artists’ media and personal rights in connection with streaming and digital distribution of opera performances and concerts.

  • Dr. Grenoble says:

Political lobby group for the weak artists.
I say, we don’t need any thereof: neither lobby groups, nor weak artists.

Have them know, that you feel they are worthless.
    Stop politics from funding them.

Change your world, one step at a time.

Yes. Just because someone thinks he’s an artist, is not enough to artificially sustain someone.

If in the REAL world, he is not capable of holding an audience’s interest, then let him feel it.

Stop trying to bypass the nature of things.

      • La plus belle voix says:

You write “. . . he’s an artist . . .” but the correct personal pronoun is surely grzz?

  • Le Křenek du jour says:

Frankly, if the Association Européenne des Agents Artistiques (AEAA) had done its job, such a move should have been superfluous.
Having witnessed a fair bit of the horseplay between AEAA and IAMA, I find it grotesque to read now that Doka Art is holding talks with AFAA, AEAA, OMAI, and IAMA, while most if not all of its members must belong to at least one of these organisms.

The charade reminds me of Herbert Rosendorfer’s “Kuratorium Unteilbares Österreich-Ungarn” (a charmingly KundK spoof on the quite useless Kuratorium Unteilbares Deutschland of the Cold War years). To spice up things, Rosendorfer reported secessionist tendencies among the membership, and sought to counter the break-up by founding a “Kuratorium Unteilbares Kuratorium Österreich-Ungarn”.
Doka Art looks likewise recursively divisible.
I would suggest first forming a spin-off association of the Alemannic-speaking members located around the Lake of Constance, further branching by excluding those of the Swabian persuasion.
    No Bavarians need apply.

Excellent idea, and those goals seem sensible and laudable.
