Denmark has a Jimmy Savile in its premier chorus
mainPressure is growing on Danish Radio to explain why it ignored persistent complaints of sexual abuse against minors by the conductor of its Girls Choir, the late Tage Mortensen.
The newspaper Politiken reports that DR director general Christian Nissen rejected a 1996 complaint about sexual abuse of minors as defamatory Tage Mortensen. Nissen now maintains to Politiken that he fired the former chief conductor in 2000, when the first complaints were made.
The BBC turned a blind eye to Jimmy Savile’s predations for decades. When they were proven, the DG had to resign.
