The death has been made known of Professor Heribert Beissel, chief conductor of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra for fourteen years, and of the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra in Essen. After German reunification he was General Music Director of the Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt an der Oder.

Heribert shared the same Christian name as Karajan, only Karajan dropped the superfluous ‘i’.

Sad news…. A very good and very underrated conductor…. Please remember : Chopin, Complete Works for Piano and Orchestra. The late and much admired Abbey Simon as soloist. Vox CDX 5002. A real must… Both RIP.
