Looks like the Eurovision winners have been musical disasters ever since the 1956 premiere …
Not at all. Since the premiere some superb singers have won Eurovision, most significantly the great Swedish baritone Ingvar Wixell who won the 1965 contest. He went on to sing at the Met, Covent Garden, Bayreuth, and many other major opera houses, one of the great baritones of the 20th-century.
Talented singers, I agree ! But pitiful music, most often.
