I was fortunate to work with Elaine when I conducted the first performance with orchestra (strings, piano and clarinet) of her De la Mare songs in Malvern in 1999. Her word setting was considered and natural and consequently the vocal line was always able to project through the orchestra with ease. They were well crafted, characterful and enjoyable pieces to work on and I remember with fondness working with her through the score. RIP.
