Romanian tenor and director, 73
RIPThe excellent tenor Corneliu Murgu has died, apparently of kidney disease.
He spent most of his career in Vienna from 1979 until 2000, also appearing at the Metropolitan Opera (Riccardo), La Scala (Radames), Royal Opera House (Calaf) and Opera Bastille (Otello).
In 2000 he was appointed general manager of the National Opera in his home town Timisoara, a post he held for 19 years.
So sad to read of his death, a great singer and artist. RIP.
