Death of top trumpet, 89
mainVictor ‘Vitín’ Paz, a legend on the trumpet, has died at home in Panama City.
Wynton Marsalis once wrote of him: ‘His tone is golden, attack pristine, accuracy and consistency definitive, and his ethics and integrity unsurpassed.’
Eulogy here.
Victor was an absolute master, and I’m so sad to hear of his passing.
The ballad playing on the provided video is lovely, but I hope SD readers will follow the link to Victor’s eulogy, which has a stunning track by the Tito Rodriguez Orchestra. There’s where you can hear Victor in full flight!
Not only are the solo trumpet interjections superlative, but the brass section as a whole – undoubtedly led by Victor – is as good as you’ll ever hear.
Bravo, Maestro!
