New chief conductor for the northeast
mainThe Royal Northern Sinfonia, covering the north-east of England, has named Dinis Sousa, 32, as its next principal conductor, starting September.
Sousa, who is Portuguese, is founder of Orquestra XXI and a protege of John Eliot Gardiner.
He was based in London but has now moved to the northeast.
You can’t go wrong with Portuguese;
1) To the native peoples of Britain, he is not White – rather “africanish”; “africanish-but-European-for-long-enough-I-guess…uhhh” – you know what I mean?
2) He is not exactly male, because all Portuguese male figures are playing football and even they are much less male than, say, Vinnie Jones. No one is intimidated.
The Prime Minister of Portugal, for example, is NOT MALE AT ALL.
3) He is not toxic – just look at that smile. And when you hear his accent – swoon.
4) Also, being Portuguese, he should start shoe-horning Portuguese musicians into the orchestra ASAP. What’s good for Wolverhampton is good for the Sinfonia.
Altogether, a triumph for diversity and good taste.
Not everyone may have “got” your humour Rogerio, but in any case, I hope that the Wolves goalie is OK after yesterday’s situation at Molyneux. And yes, there are almost as many Portugese at Wolves as there used to be Frenchmen at Arsenal…..and let’s hope that Mr Sousa does well so close to the Magpies…
What on earth is this drivel??
You forgot to mention that the Portuguese started the transatlantic slave trade. So I guess the poor sod is cancelled now
A Portuguese conductor after Brexit?
How is this possible?
Did you miss the “He was based in London” part?
Good try, but you know perfectly well it was predicted that the UK would not be able to retain EU musicians after Brexit.
What happened to Lars Vogt?
Lars Vogt is stull trying to learn conducting.
I hope he never has the misfortune of being confused with the horrid right-wing troll Dinesh d’Sousa.
Trolls were all wiped out in the Great Troll Genocide that took place after the destruction of the One Ring by Frodo in the depths of Mount Doom.
All… except d’Sousa.
Perhaps he should change his name to John Philip to avoid that risk.
He was pretty unimpressive when he came to NY last year. Rather a step down after Lars…
Great News! All the best to him
Congratulations Dinis – a well deserved appointment, and a stepping stone to great things!
