She originally studied art at the Helsinki University of Art and Design, although that fact seems to have been conveniently airbrushed from her Wikipedia entry, as well as from many “authorised” biographies. Her composition studies were in Helsinki and Freiburg (with Ferneyhough). So she got into contemporary music at the deep end. If I were in the position to commission her, which I am not, I’d ask for a piece in C Major for children’s choir.
