The Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra of San Francisco has a reputation for doing things a bit differently, but this is groundbreaking.

An American orchestra whose period and style is dictated by its title has appointed a British contemporary composer as its artist in residence.

He’s Tarik O’Regan, 43, a composer whose works incorporate a range of influences from prog rock, minimalism and Maghreb sounds to Renaissance polyphony.
