Baroque orchestra adopts living composer
mainThe Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra of San Francisco has a reputation for doing things a bit differently, but this is groundbreaking.
An American orchestra whose period and style is dictated by its title has appointed a British contemporary composer as its artist in residence.
He’s Tarik O’Regan, 43, a composer whose works incorporate a range of influences from prog rock, minimalism and Maghreb sounds to Renaissance polyphony.
Let’s see how they get on.

Why do residents in San Francisco still have such a Catholic name for their city?
What a stupid comment!
I’d rather say “historically informed”.
St. Petersburg, Petrograd, Leningrad.
San Francisco, Friscograd, …
🙂
Friscograd! I love it!
A baroque orchestra playing music by a livin composer whose work incorporates “a range of influences from prog rock, minimalism and Maghreb sounds to Renaissance polyphony.”
Is Jordi Savall going to guest conduct?
This is the type of music the audience can expect:

Vivaldi is quite far away.
Orchestra barocca? È uno scherzo?
Più probabilmente un inquinamento acustico “modernista” suonato in A = 410 Hz o simili.
Never miss an opportunity for a nasty under the belt article…. Not surprising for a frustrated failed musician. Always on the lookout for a bone to gnaw. Sad.
