UK conductor: I won’t go on tour again
mainAsked about his lockdown year, the conductor and TV presenter Charles Hazlewood tells Fiona Maddocks:
In a way it’s been an amazing time for me. For 30 years I was basically touring the world most of the time, conducting different orchestras. For the first time, I wasn’t doing that. It was like a shedding of skins. Now I’ve realised I don’t want to go back to it. I’ve parted company with my agent and with the orchestras I was working with. All my energies now will go into the Paraorchestra.
(The Paraorchestra is the world’s first fully integrated orchestra of professional, disabled and non-disabled musicians.)
The man is a prize wally, and a reliable counter-weathervane.
it wonderful he is willing to help people who have disabilities.
Good. Stay inside post-Brexit UK and make UK great again.
It always was great. Isolating ourselves will only accelerate our decline.
Looks like perhaps he’s found soul-fulfilling work that doesn’t involve a lot of travelling, or at least not skipping from orchestra to orchestra, which not everyone loves. Good for him. (Even better if the orchestra likes him too 🙂 )
