UK string quartet splits up after 10 years
mainJames Dickenson and Nick Stringfellow have left the Villiers Quartet, which they co-founded in 2011, ‘to pursue other projects’.
Their replacements are the Canadian violinist Katie Stillman (pictured) and London-born cellist Leo Melvin.
“Splits up” usually means, to me at least, that a quartet has disbanded. This is more a change of makeup not unlike what has happened to all but a lucky few string quartets.
Indeed. Here is the press release from their own (very much alive) Web site. https://villiersquartet.com/2021/01/03/newbeginning/
FYI on June 8, 2020 the Villiers Quartet had announced that Katie Stillman was joining them as their first violinist, so that aspect of the news is 6 months old already.
