Ahhhhh Nina, Nina!
Miss you sooo madly!
Nina would transform any music, no matter how banal, in a gem!
With her voice, playing the piano, dancing, just being there…
Sorry to dissent. I was introduced to the poetry of Leonard Cohen in schooldays, long before he became a singer. I have heard Suzanne since I was a sprog, in his and many versions. While in no way denying the greatness of Nina Simone, this is far from my favourite version — it does not seem to me to capture the sense of the song at all. (To be fair, although many singers have done many excellent covers of a lot of his songs, Suzanne is one that has eluded most others (though Judy Collins’ version was quite appealing, but even it did not manage the pathos of his own).
Incredible lyrics and performance
Maravilhosa!
