The Academy of Ancient Music has named Laurence Cummings, 52, to succeed Richard Egarr as music director from next September.

Both are noted Handelians.

Egarr, who led the AAM for 15 years, is now with the Philharmonia Baroque in San Francisco.

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra has named James Conlon as its Artistic Advisor, starting next September when Marin Alsop steps down as music director after 14 years.

Both the orchestra and Conlon have made clear that he is not interested in the music director role. He’s just holding the fort.

Conlon, 70, remains music director of LA Opera.

The Curtis Institute has filled the vacancy left by the death of Eleanor Sokoloff, 106, with Michelle Cann, 33.

Way to go.

Cann is due to make her Philadelphia Orchestra debut in spring 2021 in the Florence Price Concerto in One Movement. She is presently on the Curtis roster as a ‘collaborative staff pianist’.
