The countertenor John Holiday, a voice teacher at the Conservatory of Music at Lawrence University, was the runaway star of the season 19 kick-start of the US talent show, The Voice.

Holiday, 35, from Rosenberg, TX, sang as a boy chorister with the Houson Symphony. He decided to pursue opera himself to break more barriers as a young gay black man. John now performs opera in four languages and works as a jazz singer. He currently lives in Wisconsin with his husband, Paul.

Back when he decided to pursue opera, his objective was to break barriers? Wow. Just how lucky was it for him that he was very good at it and has actually been able to develope a love for what he does over time. I wonder if he ever got to break anything.

  • Elizabeth Owen says:

What a lovely voice hope he gets offers.

  • Una says:

Not that much opera for any counter-tenors unless you take all the work off mezzos.

  • Clarrieu says:

Dear Holiday, whatever the comments to your clip are, don’t play this awful Dm7 chord on bar 3 of «Over the Rainbow»…

  • Gareth Morrell says:

The Met has already shown an interest in him and he impressed everyone who worked with him there not only with his unique voice and talent, but also with his outgoing and lovable personality. Bravo,John!
