Kevin Purrone is the pianist at Josef Gingold’s masterclass.

Does he play this bravely today?

  • Bill says:

The great Andres Cardenes in the back row there, not long before his silver medal in the Tchaikovsky Competition.

    • Amos says:

Perhaps you should include the story of how AC found his way to Mr. Gingold’s class which is another example that JG was not only a virtuoso, whether as a concertmaster or a teacher, but also a mensch.

  • Ruben Greenberg says:

Josef Gingold was still playing very well at an advanced age here. Elderly prodigies impress me even more than child prodigies.

  • Fiddlist says:

He works with better pianists today, that’s for sure!

  • violin accordion says:

    Lost the “edge” very quickly

  • Edgar Self says:

Impressive, as is Josef Gingold, another matured prodigy like Elman, whom I saw play it, and Heifetz. Gingold and Shumsky were with Primrose in Toscanini’s NBCSO and Primrose’s quartet. Much of Bell’s body language is the same in his early fifties and recently married. Exhilarating despite spots of dodgy intonation and blue notes. Poor Kein Purrone works gamely at his unenviable job, starts, keeps up, and finishes together, which Beecham said is all the public care about.
