London orchestra moves residency into school
mainThe Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment is officially resident at London’s Southbank Centre, which is closed.
It also had premises at King’s Place, which is presently dormant.
So the OAE has signed on for a five-year residency at Acland Burghley secondary school in Camden, where the assembly hall is acoustically suited to rehearsals.
Smart thinking.
(3/3)…@Acland_Burghley school is now our home, a place where we can all be together at last, staff, players, library, studio, rehearsal, performance and above all engagement with those great young people, inspiring new colleagues and their wider community.

Kings Place evicted both OAE and London Sinfonietta, as it wanted to rent out their offices at a commercial rate. Good luck with that now…
More than smart thinking: some lucky students may have life altering experiences as a result of the OAE residency. Their presence can win way more classical music converts among the children than, say, any crossover artists or the occasional visit to a classical concert.
