Boris Johnson has greenlit indoor concerts, starting this weekend. The easing was intended to start two weeks ago but was put back due to rising Covid numbers.

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said: ‘The nation’s hard work to keep the virus under control means we can now make further careful progress on recovery with allowing audiences back for indoor performances, fans back at sports events and the reopening of more Covid-19-secure leisure businesses.’

Promoters are responding with caution. The BBC has insisted with great finality that it will not permit the public to attend the Proms. The South Bank is shut, perhaps forever in its present form.

Also, woodwind, brass and singers are being treated as equals now rather than as higher risk. Good news.

  • Stephen Diviani says:

I’m so fed up with this government’s incompetence. Promoters are right to be sceptical: ‘You can. You can’t. You can.’

  • Nick says:

    EXCELLENT!!!

  • Iain Scott says:

    Inaccurate headline.
England may have okd concerts but Scotland, Wales and N Ireland have not.
    Accuracy please.

  • Iain Scott says:

And Oliver Dowden is the English Culture Secretary not the British one.
