Bavarian State Opera rips out its orchestra pit and front rows

The Munich house has launched a huge summer structural programme to incorporate Covid safety measures.

 

In order to react as best as possible to the new requirements and work towards a resumption in autumn, it is necessary, among other things, to enable our orchestral musicians to apply compliance with hygiene measures and distance regulations.

      I hope you’re not putting concern for a (movable) orchestra pit above concern for human life.

    They’re covering the pit like the ROH does for concerts but creating more space by taking out four rows of stalls seats as well. Are they really considering doing opera performances with the orchestra in view in front of the stage or just concert performances?

      Apparently they are going to do both concerts and opera performances in concert version according to this plan. For the matter of current regulations, don’t count on Zimmermann’s Die Soldaten or Moses und Aaron.
