Death of a midwestern conductor
mainProfessor John Boyd, who taught at Northern Illinois University, Wichita State, Kent State, University of Arizona and Indiana State has died at the age of 75.
No cause was given.
He also established a professional wind orchestra “Philharmonia a Vent” which performed and recorded CDs on the “Elf” label in cooperation with Frederick Fennell and Elizabeth Ludwig Fennell.
An old Northwestern college buddy who I shared some fun times with as well as a dedicated an passionate musician.
R.I.P
Sad to see. Maestro Boyd was a fixture of the Conductors Guild for many years. RIP
I just encountered his band transcription of Nielsen’s “Maskerade” overture. Synchronicity.
