Exclusive: Three tenors give extraordinary at-home concert with Zubin Mehta
mainMario Dradi and our friends at IME Productions brought three top tenors in Rome, Milan and Fabiano today together with Zubin Mehta for a unqiuely distanced concert in Coronavirus circumstances.
The tenors are Luciano Ganci, Francesco Meli and Giovanni Sebastiano Sala.
Another 61 artists from across Italy joined in the finale.
Enjoy, hope and pray. Vincero, vincero!
Today’s concert begins at 0.45.
You see this first on Slipped Disc.
I cannot believe that original concert was thirty years ago. Neither of those three tenors gave the performance of their lives in that day, but made history in a popular sense. Probably Pavarotti made the best contribution. In those years I was not a huge admirer of Mehta, but in hindsight he made some superb recordings of Italian Opera. I have also enjoyed his live performance of Mahler 2 with Vienna Philharmonic just before his illness. When I saw him with Israel Philharmonic in 1980’s he was much less impressive.
Beautiful idea.
But they should spell Zubin Mehta correctly!!’
or just leave him out?
That facial hair on the middle one. Yikes…
So close your eyes and enjoy their singing. How petty! Even in these times , negativity strikes at even art and music!
You know what’s better than watching this? Watching a recording of the original. Better singing. Better emotion. Better acoustics. Just plain better.
