Does being a young woman help a conductor to be engaged for a debut with the LA Phil?
I remember Roderick Cox from the Lanaudiere Festival a few years ago conducting a wonderful Rach 2. In 2018 he won the Sir Georg Solti Conductor award.
He was one of the best in the Malko Competition. Saw him live later, that was underwhelming. But he has much potential!
where did you say him after malko?

He was the winner of the Solti Conducting Award and worked with Osmo V. in Minnesota. He has a degee from Northwestern and has studied with Robert Spano, amongst others. He’s talented.
A good appointment by the Dude. Give him some credit.
San Francisco Opera is having him conduct Barber of Seville next season. SFO has unofficial diversity quotas so he is getting a big break based on that. Whether he proves to be the real thing is yet to be seen.
„Yet the most glorious music came from the pit and the chorus. I’ve never been more impressed with the orchestra—sonorous yet perfectly balanced, a testament to the deftness with which Roderick Cox led the ensemble. Bizet’s score is masterfully orchestrated, of course, but the responsiveness and sheer beauty the conductor drew from his musicians was a delight to witness.“

Well, it’s pretty obvious where you stand, with the Donald.
I doubt that he was invited to San Francisco because of a ‘diversity quota’ (he will also be conducting in Cincinatti). He’s good and he has won top awards and studied under famous conductors.
He is right at the start of his career. Why not give him time to learn, and accept their are going to be mistakes along the way.
When he was serving as Associate in Minnesota, I felt he connected well audiences. But again. I’ve never rehearsed under him.
