Sicklist: Yoncheva’s out at Covent Garden

La bohème, Friday 10 January, 7.30pm
Due to illness, Bulgarian soprano Sonya Yoncheva has withdrawn from singing the role of Mimì in tomorrow’s performance of La bohème. The role will now be sung by Romanian-born British soprano Simona Mihai (pictured), who sang Mimì in this production in the 2017–18 Season and will also sing Musetta later in this Season’s run.
Does anyone know how long Yoncheva is out for? I have a ticket for next Friday.
No nobody knows.
As Yoncheva is still announced for that show, surely she is the only one at the moment who has an idea whether they are going to be there next week? And even then, as it is in the future, things might change, in a can’t predict the future way.
Simona Mihai is a great replacement! Toi toi toi
Disagree. Saw her last time and thought her voice was thin and she was weak in the role. Really annoying
make sure you don’t go then, you might disappoint yourself were you wrong about being right there
Piotr Beczala skipped tonight’s “Lohengrin” at Wiener Staatsoper, so the audience is being treated to Klaus Florian Vogt in Andreas Homoki’s hideous production which I stormed out of at its premiere and caught a late-night screening of “The Grand Budapest Hotel” as a palate cleanser.
My, what an exciting life you have, dear!
