It’s about time the concert and opera audience boycotted these persistent cancellers such as JK.

Rows of empty seats might concentrate minds.

      Martha Argerich?

      • Stuard Young says:

I have Had the greatest pleasure having heard Martha Argerich In Philadelphia – a two-piano recital with Nelson Freire, and a number of concertos, all when Duroit was on the podium. Nary a cancellation for me. Each concerto was performed 3-4 times; no cancellations there either. Now that Dutoit is PNG, she likely will never return. I would very much risk her possible cancellation, for a chance to (maybe) hear her perform again. (By the way, absolutely stunning Ravel G Major, and Prokofieff Concerto 1!

    • Helen says:

Don’t be ridiculous. JK has cancelled very little of late. He last cancelled about 7 months ago. In 2018 he did not cancel at all. I am sure he would have preferred to have done this concert. Have you never had any time off work?

Williams attends own tribute in Vienna.

  • Sue Sonata Form says:

Kleiber was known in Japan as “the cancellation devil”!!
Some can get away with it. Some.

  • Jack says:

Oscar Levant and Vladimir Horowitz were friends in the 1940s, and both were chronic cancelers of their concerts.

Levant, who I’m sure most know was a legendary wit, suggested to his friend that they issue a press release with the header “Vladimir Horowitz and Oscar Levant are available for a limited number of cancellations.”

  • Mustafa Kandan says:

There is a lot of negative comments these days about Placido Domingo, the biggest opera star of his time. If one compares him with today’s opera stars, he was very reliable & always a team player.

  • Elvira says:

To cancel on a such short notice…..you better come with a very valid reason!

    • Larry L. Lash/ Vienna, Austria says:

I paid €50 for a ticket to a benefit theatre performance tonight in Wien. I had trouble sleeping last night and when I awoke late today I couldn’t stop sneezing – VERY loudly – and blowing my nose. And then a mix of snow and rain began to fall, with a forecast for snow accumulation this evening. So I stayed in bed. This just came out of nowhere. I probably could have scraped myself together and gone, but I was afraid that my sneezing attacks might be disruptive to the performers and audience members.

These things happen, especially at this time of the year.

  • Diane Valerie says:

Wot?! No “Sick List: Stricken Bavarian Bows Out” style headlines or are these just reserved for Polish singers?

  • BrianB says:

Strauss, Lehar, Stolz, et.al. get a reprieve. Go on you tube or pull a CD off the shelf and listen to the real thing, not a soggy imitation, from Tauber, Wittrisch, Schmidt usw. And much less pricey.
