Jonas Kaufmann has new role
mainSimon Stone’s new Munich production of Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s Die tote Stadt features Jonas Kaufmann as Paul, a decadent role he has never sung before. Marlis Petersen and Andrzej Filończyk make up the star billing. Music Director Kirill Petrenko conducts.
Very hot ticket.
Filonczyk is a marvelous singer.
Paul is such a challenging role that it is enough today for a tenor to howl/growl/croon his way through it in order to receive ovations or good reviews. No one asks him to SING it anymore because there aren t any voices left able to do it.
“ a decadent role ” What does that really mean? Has he sung all the other decadent roles but not this one?
The phrase is ambiguous. It could mean that it’s either (a) one of several decadent roles that he hasn’t sung before, or (b) a role he hasn’t sung before that happens to be decadent.
Hot ticket? Sold out…..
Dear Waltraud, “hot ticket” is an idiom, it means that a performer / performance is very popular, very desirable, and that tickets for this particular performance/ show/ production are hard to obtain.
Therefore I informed about the status of ticket sales: sold out! Hot ticket!
Where???????
Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich
I was happy enough to be there. Unforgettable, especially in these times where onw does not know when opera theaters will reopen.
