LA Phil gets another Frank Gehry hall
mainThe orchestra has announced a $4 million donation from the Edgerton Foundation to build the Judith and Thomas L. Beckmen YOLA Center at Inglewood, the youth orchestra’s first permanent, purpose-built facility.
Louise Edgerton has been a member of the LA Phil’s Board of Directors since 2008.
The hall will open a year from now.
It’s going to have retractable walls. That’s so cool.

Incredible. Boy, could Inglewood use the cultural boost! They’re about to be stuck with the former San Diego Chargers, thanks to the absurd way the NFL goes about its business. The new but small stadium will at least help to put Inglewood back on the map. But a Frank Gehry building for YOLA will lend more respectability than a small palace for one the NFL’s more floundering franchises.
A new hall for $4 million? Hard to believe, especially in L.A. There must be other money involved.
This article mentions the sum of $14.5 million for the building. $4 million might be Geary’s fee.
